Real Madrid qualified, Barcelona eliminated from the Copa del Rey
This Thursday, Real Madrid played against Elche as a visitor for the round of 16 of the Copa del Rey, the final score was 1-2 in a match that went into extra time.
Ancelotti made several rotations and, although the team lacked a good '9' striker, they fought until the end to achieve a historic comeback in the second half of extra time.
It should be noted that the locals had the clearest chances in the first half and disturbed the Lunin area on several occasions. Vinicius and Rodrygo for the whites would not stop trying on the wings, although in the second half they would become more evident.
The referee would blow the whistle for the end of the 90 regulation minutes with a score equal to zero, but before that the Madrid coach would remove Jovic to place Isco on '9', and Casemiro, Modric, Dani Ceballos and Hazard would also enter.
In the first period of extra time, Elche was more, and had two foul chances that Lunin would stop, at least in the first, since the next one caused by Marcelo, who would see a direct red card for being the last man to cut a clear scoring chance, it would end in the first for the locals.
Gonzalo Verdú would charge and after a rebound from the barrier, she would finish off again, deflected by a defender and headed to the back of the net. Madrid was left with 10 players and down on the scoreboard.
The first half of the extra time would end showing that dramatic situation for the meringues who only had 15 minutes left for the miracle.
The whites took it very seriously, since at minute 108, in a dangerous attack, Dani Ceballos hit it from the edge of the area and then Isco deflected it to convert the expected equalizer.
Real Madrid would not give up but would continue to attack and in a great pass, at 115' Eden Hazard gains speed from the left, the Elche goalkeeper comes out and is mocked by the Belgian, who defines an empty goal and scores 1 -2 definitive.
This completes the historic comeback, although the game ended in controversy due to the annulment of a goal from Elche at 119'.
The 'culés' stay out of the Cup
Athletic Bilbao would receive Barcelona at the Nuevo San Mamés, this Thursday for the Copa del Rey match in a tough match where the Basques would end up sentencing the match, in the same way, in extra time.
Iker Muniain would score the first at minute 2, receiving inside the area and defining without having a clear profile but making it impossible for the culé goalkeeper. In the same way, F erran, for Barcelona, would equalize with an excellent goal at 20'.
Already for the second half, the 'lions' would go ahead on the scoreboard again after a foul charged by Muniain from the left and in a fortuitous play, a header is achieved that falls at the feet of Iñigo Martínez who manages to push the ball to the bottom of the nets and convert the momentary 2-1.
Everything seemed to be decided, but in a desperate attack by Xavi's team, with a cross from the left, Dani Alves would hit him badly as a 'chilean', which was more like an assist for Pedri to finish off the center and make the tie two goals at 93'.
In extra time, Bilbao with a quick counter through Nico Williams from the right of the area, centered a ball that hit Jordi Alba's hand. The referee reviews the VAR and awards a penalty in favor of the lions. Muniain hits him from eleven steps and converts the final 3-2. Athletic to the quarterfinals and Barcelona is also left without this Copa del Rey.
