This Tuesday the former Real Madrid player, Francisco Gento López, who was better known as Paco Gento, passed away at the age of 88.

Through a statement on Twitter, the club expressed the following in this regard:

"Real Madrid CF, its president and its Board of Directors deeply regret the death of Francisco Gento, honorary president of Real Madrid and one of the greatest legends of our club and of world football. Real Madrid also extends its condolences to all the members and fans of Real Madrid".

For his part, the Technical Director of the merengue team, Carlo Ancelotti, also joined the duel by expressing the following words in the locker room:

“Bad news today. This morning a legend of this Club, Paco Gento, passed away. He has spent 18 years at this club winning six European Cups, 12 Leagues... So we remember him with respect and with a minute of silence in his memory”.

These words were expressed while they kept a minute of silence and after that, they expressed applause in honor of the white legend.

Brief biography of Gento

Francisco Gento López was born in Guarnizo, Spain, on October 21, 1933 and began his football career on February 22, 1953, at the age of 20 with the Real Madrid team, being his second team after Real Santander SD Here he played a total of 600 games where he scored 126 goals.

In this team he played alongside Alfredo Di Stéfano, who became part of the merengue team the same year that Gento joined. Together they formed one of the best strikers of all time, along with Kopa, Rial and Puskas, true legends of Real Madrid.

If we talk about the Spanish team, it played a total of 44 games and was a World Cup player in Chile 62 and England 66. He debuted with the national team on May 18, 1955 in a friendly against England at the Santiago Bernabéu stadium. Their last meeting was on October 15, 1969, against Finland with a final score of 6-0.
