WhatsApp now allows you to send files up to 2 GB
For a few years, one of the main things people used Telegram for was the ease of file sharing. In fact, there are many groups in which large amounts of pirated content are shared, such as: series, music or movies.
Although WhatsApp is the most used messaging application, the truth is that it had a limitation that only allowed you to send files of up to 100 MB. But now, the company has gotten down to business and is starting to bring some pretty cool features.
For example, now the new limit for sending files is up to 2 GB, this is something that expands the possibilities and puts the company in a better position compared to its competitors.
The feature is not yet available to everyone
At the moment, this is an experimental feature and is geo-blocked, meaning it can only be accessed from certain parts of the world. So far, it is only available in Argentina and users in this country are the first to try it.
Despite the fact that it is only available for Argentina, they can send, without problems, files of up to 2 GB to any WhatsApp user, even outside the country.
Unfortunately, at the moment it is only possible to send documents and ZIP files. It is not possible to send media files such as videos or images, however that is likely to change soon.
If you don't live in Argentina, you're going to have to wait for the feature to start rolling out to everyone. More countries will likely be added to the list in the coming months until it becomes available globally.
Is it a risk for Telegram?
With this feature, WhatsApp equals Telegram, its main competitor, since it also allows sending files of up to 2 GB. Some users wonder if this would stop people who use Telegram to send files from doing so.
The truth is that this is unlikely, since Telegram has a large number of users, in addition to already having established communities. So, it is unlikely that all of these communities will end up migrating to WhatsApp.
Also, Telegram offers many other features apart from sending files larger than 2GB. With this you will be able to have practically a personal and unlimited cloud, things that WhatsApp does not have.
This does not mean that WhatsApp will not gain users with this, it will, but it is unlikely that it will end up unseating Telegram as the best option for sharing files.
