The Ocasio-Cortez dress that caused a stir at the Met Gala
The activist and member of the United States House of Representatives since 2019 Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has been a complete bomb of criticism and praise, thanks to her arrival at the Met Gala on Monday night, in which she used a jacket dress made of wool in ivory color and which was personalized by Brother Vellies with an organza ruffle and which has a red print with the message “Tax the Rich”.
Her arrival was filmed by the paparazzi, in which Ocasio-Cortez can be seen addressing the vehicle that took her to the gala, which according to the different web portals, was a special, armored vehicle with all possible security elements. It also had a masked assistant, who held the tail of her dress while smilingly posing for her fans and posing for photos.
Independently, the attendance and clothing that Representative Ocasio-Cortez had was just enough to make those who criticize her speak, either for her political positions or controversial statements. Within Twitter, the eldest son of former President Donald Trump, labeled her as a fake by wanting to send a message about the collection of taxes to the rich of the country while she rubbed shoulders with a group of left-wing elites, which in her eyes they are quite wealthy.
Everyone's opinions have not been long in coming
Representative Jim Banks also expressed his opinion on the matter, believing that Ocasio-Cortez is the "gift that keeps on giving." Despite all this, it is more surprising that the dissatisfaction judgments of the so-called progressives and socialists, are based on the feeling of this group with respect to their little capacity to fight for the workers belonging to Congress.
Briahna Gray, who is a former national press secretary for Senator Bernie Sanders' campaign and also a co-host of the “Bad Faith” podcast, stated that Ms. Ocasio-Cortez is held to a standard known as unique, as people they expected much more from her.
Likewise, Gray expressed that part of all the reactions that Ocasio-Cortez received regarding the dress were due to the disappointment of her followers with respect to some of her political positions.
On the other hand, we have Danny Haiphong, who is a socialist activist and also a writer, who said that what offended him most of the whole scene was not the breakdown of the self-described socialist-democratic, who during the event rubbed shoulders with the rather, AOC is not making the most of her large base of support in order to demand the very thing she expressed in her dress.
But did it really accomplish its mission?
Although Ocasio-Cortez's intentions were perhaps a bit different from the reactions she got, the dress has sparked a lot of debate about the true intentions of the dress. However, Alexandria has been harshly criticized by those who consider that this message can be given to the public and the entire nation in a much more influential and strong way, since as mentioned above, there are many people and social groups which They consider that the activist has not been making the most of the potential and the tools that she has in her possession.
