20 people killed during clandestine cockfight in Michoacán, Mexico

On Sunday night -March 27-, 20 people were killed in a massacre that occurred in a palenque located in the El Paraíso ranch where clandestine cockfights were held, in the municipality of Zinapécuaro, state of Michoacán, Mexico.

According to the Michoacán State Attorney General's Office (FGE), around 10:30 p.m., an attack was recorded by men dressed in military suits carrying long firearms, who fired them at attendees of the place.

Elements of the Crime Scene and Expert Services Unit (USPEC) went to the site, where they found 19 lifeless bodies, including 16 men and three women and six injured people. Fatal victim number 20 died while being taken to hospital.

Consequently, the FGE of Michoacán opened an investigation folder in relation to the events that occurred. In addition, officials from the Mexican Army and the National Guard were deployed in a search operation for those responsible.

In this regard, the Mexican president, Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO), declared that, "It was a massacre of one group against another in a clandestine palenque where they were."

On the other hand, drivers who were traveling through the area of the federal highway that joins the states of Jalisco and Michoacán with Mexico City, declared that an armed group retained a passenger bus and a van, which they used to block the passage through more than an hour at the Zinapécuaro toll booth.

Violence overwhelmed in Michoacán

It should be noted that just a month ago , 17 people were murdered during a wake in Michoacán, Mexico.

According to official data, in the first two years of 2022, 448 homicides have been registered in the state.
