Canada investigates the origin of the financing of anti-vaccine protests
The Canadian Congress approved the investigation measure into the origin of the financing of millions of dollars to anti-vaccine groups and radical groups, which have been blocking downtown Ottawa for a week.
Canadian congressmen expect the directors of the GoFundMe website to testify before the House of Commons committee, and give explanations as soon as possible about the donations, which to date totaled ten million dollars.
Some congressmen have declared that they suspect that the protests, which are classified as illegal by Ottawa County, are financed from the United States and other countries.
Donald Trump and Elon Musk are among those who have offered their support for Canada's anti-vaccine protests.
The anti-vaccine demonstrations began last weekend, when hundreds of people headed to Ottawa to express their rejection of the measures in force in Canada to stop covid-19.
Since then, anti-vaccine and radical organizations have restricted the passage surrounding the Canadian Congress with vehicles.
Ottawa Mayor Jim Watson and other neighborhood groups have reported that anti-vaccine protesters have assaulted city citizens and caused riots.
One of the measures used by the protesters, who have declared that they will not leave the streets until the restrictive measures against the pandemic are removed, is the use of truck horns during the day and night to annoy the inhabitants.
A worrying situation
Ottawa Police Chief Peter Sloly on Wednesday said the situation is overstepping police boundaries, warning that military support will be needed.
Today, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Defense Minister Anita Anand said that the Government of Canada has no intention of using the country's military to put an end to the demonstrations.
The Defense Minister posted on her Twitter account that Canada's armed forces are not a law enforcement force " we have no plans to deploy them to Ottawa."
On the other hand, Prime Minister Trudeau appeared before the press that the use of the Canadian armed forces has not been requested for the time being and therefore it will not be evaluated as an option at the moment.
