Diplomatic boycott of Beijing confirmed by the JJ. OO. winter 2022
In protest, the government of President Joe Biden will not send any diplomatic representatives to the Winter Olympics in Beijing in 2022.
Jen Psaki, secretary of the White House, announced that this action is generated in the form of a clear protest against human rights abuses in China.
Clear reasons
In a press conference given by the United States government, Psaki specified that there will be no diplomatic or official representation at the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, which will be held in 2022 in Beijing.
The clear reasons for this protest are due to all the crimes against humanity and the genocide that has been established in the People's Republic of China in Xinjiang, to which the Chinese government does not retaliate.
In the same way, he made it clear that everything that is currently happening cannot be taken as normal, which is why the diplomatic boycott is an official fact, due to the atrocious abuses.
What will happen to American athletes?
From the United States government, athletes will be able to compete without problems, and each member of the team will have the corresponding financial support.
The difference that athletes will have in this opportunity is that they will not have the fanfare in person, but from every American home.
Countries united to the boycott
After the United States announced that no diplomats would attend the games, British Minister Boris Johson announced that they were joining the boycott and no UK officials would attend.
However, their British athletes would participate, as they do not want to involve them in political inconvenience.
In addition to this, Scott Morrison, Minister of Australia, also communicated that in the national interest of his country, they would not appear in Beijing.
To all this, Canada is also added, as announced by the Prime Minister of that country, Justin Trudeau, which they do as a measure of expression on the deep violations of human rights in China.
And in the same way, its athletes will be able to compete in the contest without any inconvenience. Lithuania may also join, and Great Britain, however, neither government has made any official statement.
Response from China
As "wrong acts" has described the Minister of Foreign Affairs of China, Wang Yi, and said that both the United States, and Canada and the United Kingdom "will pay a price" for the diplomatic boycott established.
Wang asked the countries involved to show a political spirit beyond what happened, since as expressed by the minister: "Sports have nothing to do with politics."
In the same vein, the spokesman for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Zhao Lijan, assures the Chinese embassy in Washington that the decisions taken are pretentious.
And that classified everything as a political plot doomed to fail, and in turn ensured that they take their respective countermeasures.
