88 homes were affected by the earthquake in Ecuador

As a result of the evacuations carried out after the strong earthquake of 6.0 that was experienced in the city of Esmeralda, Ecuador, 88 homes were affected. Most of these are found in the Chamera sector.

The National Risk and Emergency Management Service registered 356 people who were harmed. In addition to five public assets, one person was injured and one person died as a result of cardiac arrest.

The Institutions of the National Decentralized Risk Management System, especially its Health and Pre-Hospital Care team, set up tents to provide protection to the newborns at Delfina Torres Hospital, at the time of the evacuation.

Likewise, the Ministry of Health is in charge of carrying out the first due evaluations. Delfina Torre Hospital reported damage to the ceiling in different areas of its facilities, to the ceramic walls. On first tier units, there is no damage at all.

The roads of the provinces are enabled. The only one that is partially enabled due to undermining in Los Vergeles is the Viche-Quinindé E road (20).

In the cantons of Atacames and Esmeraldas there were power outages, which have been restored so far. The residents of Atacames are responsible for evacuating the areas where there may be aftershocks.

For this reason, Civil Protection Volunteers for Humanitarian Assistance and Temporary Accommodations have also been activated in the cantons that are affected.

Minutes after the earthquake that occurred at 11:28 p.m., with an epicenter 11 kilometers south of the city of Esmeraldas, several aftershocks were felt.

The strong shock caused many people to decide to leave their homes in panic, and after having lost power in several places in the area.

The telluric movement was felt in eleven of the twenty-four provinces that exist in Ecuador. According to the National Risk and Emergency Management Service (SNGRE), in Esmeralda the intensity was much stronger compared to Pichincha, where it was moderate.

Two important aftershocks were registered by the Geophysical Institute of the National Polytechnic School, two hours after the first telluric movement. The strongest of these was at 00:53, measuring 5.1 magnitude on the Richter scale.

Guillermo Lasso, president of Ecuador, informed that the provincial and national authorities are carrying out evaluations of the damage caused by the mishap. He also indicated that all the inter-institutional teams are in the territory to attend to any emergency.
