Identification card of your canine or feline from 2022
All pets must have their ID with their owner's information, in order to contact them quickly and easily.
The new Law on Protection and Rights of Animals incorporates new measures, for example: the compulsory course to have a canine, the restriction of sales of companion animals, or the completion of pet purchases in support of adoption, among many other commitments and prohibitions, which you should know if you have a pet.
Among the decisions made, there is the acquisition of the pet's identification card.
From the year 2022, the DNI for pets will be mandatory, since the objective is to have a database at the national level in the General Directorate of Animal Rights.
The Minister of Social Rights and Agenda 2030, Ione Belarra, has clarified that it is important to have all animals recognized, in order to guarantee that progress is being made on the right path and in a model in which no creature is left abandoned in Spain.
Pet ID
This will be completely necessary and fundamental for the identity of companion animals, canines or felines. This will make it easier to punish or fine those involved, in the event that the creature is abandoned.
In this registry, various information about the creature must be listed, for example, the vaccination schedule or the veterinary drugs it has undergone, becoming an integral device of the computer chip.
In addition, it will be in coordination with the autonomous communities involved.
So far, it has not been specified how the DNI of pets will be obtained, which the General Directorate of Animal Rights intends to carry out this project from 2022.
However, some people assure that the administration of the archive will fall in the power of autonomous entities, despite the fact that there will be a set of public data to work with the same database at the local level.
The information provided is that the data of the canine or feline, its veterinary record and the owner's contact must be included, to have the option of contacting the person in charge if necessary.
It is expected that the DNI will be electronic and that it also has a QR code so that the State Security Forces and Bodies can access the entire set of experiences of the creature.
This is one of the decisions taken from the new Animal Law, presented on October 6.
Although it also names different measures in favor of basic rights, such as: the course to be able to have a dog, which is necessary for pet owners to do, since it would accredit them that they are people capable of taking care of an animal.
The Viopet project is another important part of this plan. It was created within the framework of the Contingency Plan against Gender Rape, before the Covid-19 crisis. This will be in charge of caring for the animals of women victims of sexist violence.
This was designed so that the ladies who suffer from abuse could escape from their hell without getting rid of their pets, since during this cycle they could not be with them and part of these women made the decision not to continue carrying out the respective complaint.
