Italy will provide fourth dose of vaccine to the most fragile patients
The fourth dose is expected to be given to all citizens after the summer
General Francesco Paolo Figliuolo, Extraordinary Commissioner for the Pandemic Emergency, reported that from March 1 the fourth dose of the coronavirus vaccine will begin to be supplied to immunosuppressed or more fragile patients.
A published circular indicated that the Ministry of Health states that all those patients with a markedly altered response may receive the booster dose of the vaccine.
This should be applied four months after the third inoculation. It will be approved by the Italian Drug Agency and the Institute of Health.
Figliuolo indicated during his visit to the Meyer Children's Hospital that, at this time, he is visualizing who the fourth reinforcement will be aimed at and hopes that it will begin to be applied on March 1.
The patients that have been considered would be all those patients who are undergoing pharmacological treatments, people with chronic diseases and those who have received organ transplants.
The vaccination cycle has been completed by 82.84% of the population from 5 years of age and 62.27% have already successfully received the third booster dose.
Roberto Speranza, the Minister of Health, affirmed that he maintains the decision to continue using the masks in closed places even after March 31, when the state of emergency in the country ends.
In statements, he explained that the contagion curve continues to fall and they will continue working in the coming weeks to overcome the state of emergency. He added that, despite the fact that on March 31 the Covid-19 is gone, they will have to reconsider some things that will have to be maintained.
For this, it will be necessary to wait until the fall to be able to understand if it will definitively return to normal life. He concluded by informing that the possibility of applying the fourth booster dose to all citizens is being studied after the summer.
