Radio Écoute FM issued a statement saying that one of the murdered journalists was a radio worker, John Wesley Amady.

" We have just learned, to our great astonishment and sadness, the tragic death of one of our field journalists in Haiti," said Radio Écoute FM.

"We condemn with the utmost rigor this criminal and barbaric act, which constitutes a serious attack on the right to life in general and that of journalists in particular to be able to exercise their profession freely. Faced with a climate of growing insecurity, crime and impunity, we ask the authorities involved to assume their responsibility to create favorable conditions for all. "

The journalists were killed while they were announcing the security climate in the area.

Radio Écoute has closed its operations in Haiti, in honor of the family of the victims.

Violence in Haiti

In recent years, violence and insecurity have increased in Haiti. The gangs have taken control of many parts of the country, kidnappings have become something of the day to day and because of that many citizens have taken to the streets to demonstrate.

Also adding to this situation in Haiti is an economic crisis in the poorest country on the American continent.

The Center for Analysis and Research in Haiti revealed that the illegal armed groups in Haiti already have control of 60% of the country and the authorities are not able to control this situation. The number of kidnappings on the Island reached 950 during 2021.
