Virginia Woolf was a British writer considered one of the most important authors of the 20th century. However, he decided to take his own life in 1941, drowning in the River Ouse, very close to where he lived in Sussex.

His decision has been the subject of study during these years, since it leaves doubts about what apparently were episodes of depression as a result of a rape carried out by his brothers.

Below is Virginia Woolf's original suicide letter.

Dear: I'm sure I'm going crazy again. I don't think I can go through another one of those dreadful seasons. This time I'm not going to recover. I start to hear voices and I can't concentrate. So I'm doing what seems best to me. You have given me the greatest possible happiness. You have been in all respects all that can be. I don't think two people could have been happier until this terrible disease appeared. I can't fight anymore. Furthermore, I know that I am destroying your life, that without me, you could work. And I know you will. You will see that I can't even write this properly. I can not read. What I mean is that I owe you all the happiness in my life. You have been totally patient with me and incredibly good. I want to tell you that... Everyone knows. If anyone could have saved me, it would have been you. I have nothing left except the certainty of your goodness. I can not go on spoiling your life any longer. Furthermore, I don't think two people could have been happier than we have been. V.
