Showrunner Alex Pina is preparing a new series about 'the pandemic'
Director Spanish Alex Pina, creator of the award-winning series 'La Casa de Papel' has managed to capture millions of viewers in his latest film projects. After the success of the Netflix series, the showrunner has a new project in mind that he will carry out hand in hand with the streaming company.
Alex Pina stated that he is working on a new series about the coronavirus pandemic and the proliferation of bunkers that emerged after global confinement. The plot will deal with issues regarding the increase in European trade, thanks to the demand for bunkers requested by the elite of the economy.
It should be noted that, in different regions of the European continent, bunkers have begun to be placed in the most important cities since 2020. In addition, sales of this product have skyrocketed after the invasion of Ukraine by Russia.
The series is inspired by an article about the rise of bunkers
The new project of the Spanish screenwriter and director arose after the publication of an article from 2021, which talked about the proliferation of bunkers after the pandemic. After the appearance of the coronavirus, many people began to invest in bunkers to avoid contact with the outside.
The bunkers that are being manufactured in this generation are not the conventional ones that we already know. Since they are new homes that are fully furnished, they include: food and drinks for 5 years, beds, televisions, spa, gym, cinema, swimming pool and gardens.
In addition, they have a capacity for more than 75 people, covering all the services you consume in 5 years. This caught the attention of Alex Pina and he began to imagine what human life would be like if it were underground, the socialization of people, love relationships, family time, among others.
When will the series about the pandemic be published?
The series inspired by the confinement due to the coronavirus will begin filming in July of this year, since the script is in development. This implies that the Netflix series created by Alex Pina will be released in mid-2023.
Agreements with Netflix for new productions
Filmmaker Alex Pina has managed to maintain a good relationship with Netflix directors, since his projects are always innovative and manage to double the platform's figures.
Therefore, the Spanish showrunner during a statement sent by Netflix stated that he is making an agreement with the company's directors to work together on series for the next 3 years. Currently, both parties are working on a spin-off that will be released in 2023.
Pina asserted that she is finishing the script for the new prequel to 'The paper house' that will talk about the character 'Berlin'. Diego Avalos, vice president of content for Netflix in Portugal and Spain, publicly thanked Alex Pina for his performance in creating his series.
