Definitely, social networks have become not only a means of communication, but also a way of making our tastes, preferences and our intimacies known.

While we can share time of joy in them, it is also true that many people do not allow themselves a time of privacy, and do not know how to balance their private life.

The cell phone an indispensable element

Undoubtedly, the population that is most affected by internet addiction to social networks is young people. This is also part of the technological development and the large number of advances that have been generated in the field of communication.

Identify if you are addicted to social networks

Nowadays, networks as a contact tool have taken a back seat. These places are now a space to show off what we do and who we are.

Many can use it as a means of inspiration to travel, eat or meet new trends, but there are those who only use it as a platform to be recognized.

Now, to know if you are in the second group, it is important that you take into account the following:

  1. The first thing you do when you get up is to update the notifications of your networks

  2. You check your profiles constantly

  3. You always hope to have a positive feedback

  4. You explore your friends' posts

  5. If you don't get the right feedback, you get frustrated

  6. You have an obsession to publish everything, from the moment you get up until you go to bed

  7. You compulsively "like" other posts

  8. You want to be "online" all day

  9. Losing your phone can cause tachycardia or stress

  10. You feel more comfortable with conversations through a chat and you rarely feel safe speaking in person

If you visualize yourself in at least 5 symptoms like these, then let me tell you that you have become compulsive on social networks.

Social networks are not the problem, the negative effect can be caused by the malpractice that we give it.

The networks need a public profile to find followers, the difficult thing is at the level of exposing themselves to public opinion, this is what generates a great addiction.

Consequence of addiction to social networks

These are some of the consequences that addiction to social networks can generate, if they are not well controlled.

Stress and anxiety

One of the main causes that affect the body is stress and anxiety caused by social networks. Well, in this wonderful world, everyone chooses to publish the successful life they lead, from trips, meals, dreams, or titles and possessions.

If you are not mature in your character, you can start to experience a very great level of stress, thinking that it would be impossible to achieve what others have.

Many people live cycles of anxiety, when they also do not get the desired feedback with their community.

It damages social relationships

Another negative point that addiction to social networks can produce, are people who do not know how to communicate if it is not through them.

Social media is time consuming

There are people who prefer to spend more time connected to social networks, and they share little with their loved ones.

It has even been proven that some acts of infidelity that lead to marriage are caused through social networks.

They deprive you of sleep and rest

When you suffer from social media addiction, you literally sleep with your phone in hand, checking profiles and making comments. Many people do not control time and spend long hours connected to their networks.

One of the worst enemies of privacy and rest can be your cell phone in the room.

Affect concentration

In the youngest, the networks affect so much that they can generate low academic performance. In older adults, their productivity time at work can also be affected by the obsession to be connected.

The same happens with those who want to plan a family time, or a good rest, but do not allow to disconnect the cell phone for even 5 minutes.

Negative effects on your nervous system

Believe it or not, addiction to social networks can also cause negative effects such as: fatigue, sleep disorder, memory loss and eye strain.

How to treat a social media addiction?

First of all, you must certify that you are suffering from a great addiction for social networks.

In this way, you can take the necessary actions to combat the compulsive time you spend on the networks. In this sense, I recommend the following:

  • Prioritize personal relationships over virtual relationships

  • Forget about photographing everything you do, this will give you freedom

  • Let your memory save the best moments

  • Disconnect from the phone for at least three hours a day

  • Set some rules when you are at home, for example: do not take out your cell phone while eating

  • Discover the benefits of not being connected

  • Have an encounter with nature and renew your neurons

  • Uninstall the apps that take up the most time

How many hours do we spend connected to the internet?

According to a study by Hootsuite and We Are Social, the average person spends between 6 hours and 54 minutes connected to their cell phone.

This average was released after a study carried out for Digital 2021.

Either through a computer or a cell phone, the truth is that people are more connected online.

In this analysis, it was revealed that Colombians can have an average of 7 hours and 10 minutes connected to the cell phone; while those who last less hours are the Japanese, who only spend 4 hours on the smartphone.

Make the most of social networks and do not allow these to be the ones that use you.
