Viral meningitis: As its name implies, in this case the infection of the meninges is due to a virus.

This type of meningitis is much milder than the bacterial type, but in the same way it requires our special attention and to strictly follow the treatment provided by the doctor since otherwise unforeseen events may occur that put the life of the affected person at risk… When the corresponding diagnoses are made, usually the presence of microorganisms is negative, which is why many people call it aseptic meningitis.

The treatment to be carried out in this case is symptomatic, that is, reducing the symptoms that affect the patient such as fever, headache, among others. It can happen that meningitis is due to the herpes virus or chickenpox. In such cases, other antibiotics are added to the treatment.

Bacterial meningitis: This type of meningitis is the most severe and the most common bacteria is called pneumococcus. These bacteria usually settle in the pharynx and can eventually reach the meninges. According to research, less than 10% of healthy adults have it and in healthy children it amounts to more than 30%. Anyone regardless of their age can suffer from this type of meningitis, although it usually affects those who have other diseases such as diabetes. In turn, alcoholism and the consumption of immunosuppressive drugs increase the chances of suffering from this infection.

As you can see, the problem of meningitis is serious and requires that it be diagnosed as soon as possible. People with a weakened immune system are prone to this disease.
