A few days ago Electronics Arts launched the new FIFA 22, which has been very well-received among its fans. And this has been demonstrated by the statistics of its first days in the market. However, it has been known that it is possible that the agreement that EA maintains with FIFA may be about to end, which means an imminent name change.

Let us remember that the renowned video game company has maintained an agreement with FIFA so that its football games bear its name and make use of its brand for more than 20 years.

Is this the end of football games with the FIFA brand?

FIFA, along with PES, is the two eternal rivals and one of the things that fans liked the most is that the EA and FIFA alliance made the game have the team and player license, which gives it more realism to the game.

To date, EA Sports has around 3 00 licenses, including 17,000 players and more than 700 teams. But that's not all, it also has more than 100 stadiums and more than 30 different leagues.

However, the end of the agreement with FIFA would not only mean the discontinuation of the FIFA name and logos, but would also mean the loss of many licenses. This is not to say that EA cannot negotiate the licenses again, but it will not have the same amount.

In a statement, the company has confirmed this rumor, and has also commented on the possibility of the name change. It is not yet known if this is really a threat or simply a pressure measure. In any case, we will have to wait to see how events unfold.

Regardless of whether it happens or not, we will continue to have soccer games as before. Just under a different name and possibly with teams and players under other names.

And of course, we will see how this would affect future installments, especially after having seen the good results that FIFA 22 has obtained.

The statistics of the new FIFA 22

The game was released on October 1, so it is still in its first week of launch. However, so far, this new FIFA has performed very well.

According to EA, a total of 9.1 million people purchased the game this week. As for Ultimate Team, we have 7.6 million teams created and 460 million games played.

These are more than acceptable numbers for the company, therefore, we have that this launch so far has been a success. In the case of changing the name and ending the contract with FIFA, it will be necessary to see how many licenses EA would lose. And of course we will see if it will remain a fan favorite, or if many will migrate to the Konami game.
