Juan Galiardo, director of Uber in Spain, assures that users with this service will be able to order 100% electric cars or motorcycles through the application.

With an investment of almost 5 million euros, the company seeks to renew its fleet with electric vehicles in conjunction with an alliance of companies such as Repsol and Banco Santander, to speed up the acquisition of vehicles.

With 70 electric vehicles available, Uber Green began operating in Madrid on Friday. According to Galiardo, the company's plan is to expand throughout Spain.

To encourage drivers to be part of Uber Green, the Driver Transport Vehicles (VTC) company announced the exemption of commissions to taxi drivers who are already operating and for those who enter the next 6 months a discount of fifteen%.

Thanks to the alliance with Repsol, drivers will be able to receive financing for the purchase of electric vehicles. In addition to this, Repsol offered up to a 21% discount on electricity supply and two free recharges per month.

Nissan and Uber, in July, reached an agreement that users of the platform could purchase 100% electric vehicles with a 25% discount.

With this announcement in Madrid, Uber Green hopes that its fleets in Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, Portugal, France and Spain will take steps to achieve its main objective, that 50% of the kilometers traveled by its fleet be electric before 2025.

Thibaud Simphal, global director of sustainability at Uber, has confirmed the investment of almost 700 million euros worldwide to achieve 100% electric fleets and incentives for drivers to reduce fuel costs.

In turn, the president of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz, assured that they are working hand in hand with Uber so that this year public transport is integrated into the services that the company offers.

Both Díaz and Galiardo have emphasized their commitment to the Spanish taxi sector. According to official data, more than 2,000 taxi drivers in Madrid work together with Uber.
